Olive Baboon
Papio anubisPurple
The Olive Baboon is a robust savanna primate with olive-gray fur, a long muzzle, and a social life built around troop movement, rank, grooming, and alliances. It moves mostly on all fours through grassland, woodland edges, rocky ground, and human-shaped landscapes, constantly reading posture, calls, and distance around the group.

The animal behind the card
Its diet is broad and opportunistic: grasses, roots, fruit, seeds, insects, eggs, and small animals can all become food when the season allows. Large troops give protection and information, but they also create pressure, because access to food, mates, and safe resting spots depends heavily on social position.
The species remains widespread across much of central sub-Saharan Africa, yet its adaptability can bring it into conflict with farms and settlements. The Olive Baboon shows a form of intelligence that is intensely social: survival depends on memory, timing, and knowing exactly where every ally and rival stands.
